| In recent years, our cities are developing rapidly. Many new urban spaces are constantly formed, at the same time, many historical urban spaces also experienced large-scale renovation and reconstruction. In this process, people usually focus on the construction speed instead of the quality of urban space. The situation is much worse especially in the human scale of the urban space which is closely related with people’s life. Urban spatial interfaces in the human scale are lack of the effective design in the visual, functional and psychological perspectives. As a result, many urban spaces arise which are not satisfied people, finally the vitality of our cities are gradually lost.Applying Dr. Nikos A. Salingaros’coupling design theory, the paper will extend it in the content, conditions, classification and its intensity. The paper studies urban spatial interfaces at human scale through the visual, functional and psychological perspectives, analyzes the influences of human physiology, psychology and behaviors by space interfaces, so that make people recognize the importance of coupling design in urban spatial interfaces. The paper studies the design methods and principles of urban spatial interfaces. It is concluded that the significance of the coupling design is very important, and there are many ways of applying the coupling design to urban space. The paper also provides design suggestions to the future making of urban space. The paper consists of four parts. The first part is an introduction of the study’s background and the significance. It also defines the research object and scope. The next part is the concept and content of the coupling design, including the content, conditions, classification and its intensity. The third part is the main part of the paper, and it is mainly divided into three chapters. These three parts study urban spatial interfaces at human scale through the visual, functional and psychological perspectives, in-depth discussion on the significance, the design methods and principles of urban spatial interfaces. The last part is the case study and the conclusion. The paper chooses three representative and convincing cases in order to confirm the importance of coupling design to the vitality of the urban space. At last the paper comes to the conclusion that the coupling design of urban spatial interfaces in the human scale is very important in the practice in our country. |
