Fire accident characterized by heavy losses is often caused by wiring short circuit, contact resistance increase of the electrical equipments of Rail vehicles, such as contactors, relays, circuit breakers, switches, terminals. How to control electrical fire accident is a very pressing problem, which remains one of the major concerns for the car depot. Although each car depot has taken various measures to try best to prevent it from happening, there are still many problems needed to be solved. Research on ways to prevent and control fire accident triggered by electrical equipment has its practical significant. The main work of this paper are presented as follows:First of all, six failure modes of the electrical equipments, which are short-circuit, over-load, contact resistance increase, leakage, electric spark and arc, careless use of electrical equipment, are introduced and analyzed, with related typical accidents took palace both at home and abroad.Secondly, under the guidance of system engineering, a "1-2-2" comprehensive model, which pays equal attention to management and technology simultaneously, is put forward. In maintenance, management should be strengthened to improve the quality of equipment; When in use, monitoring technology should be developed and employed to monitor equipment state in a real time manner. Finally, three different typical monitoring modes, namely the stewards regularly checking mode, automatic real-time temperature measurement mode and remote video monitor real-time mode, are compared and analyzed, with advantages and drawbacks of each mode analyzed and some improvements and further studies pointed out.
