Study On Exterior Environment Design Of Japanese Modern Public Buildings

Public buildings are an important category of the field of architecture, also an integral part of urban space. As a physical space open to the public, public buildings are closely related to people’s social life. Since the20th century, with the architectural concept and the technology continues to evolve, the type of public buildings, functions, features tend to diversify greatly, which enrich and improve the urban space and people’s daily lives.At the same time, the external environment of public buildings, which is an integral part of urban public space system, has become an increasing concern of Landscape Architects and the general public, because of the social development and people’s demand for high-quality environment. It is not only the transitional space between public buildings and the urban environment, but also important place for people to carry out exterior communications.This essay selects excellent works of exterior environment design of Japanese modern public buildings as research objects. By classifying and analyzing these works, it summarizes the features, functions, composing elements and design principles of different types of exterior environments. This essay attempts to summarize the differences of design concept, cultural expression and human activities of these works, which are built under different social backgrounds, cultures and construction technologies, it also points out the trend of exterior environment design of public buildings. This study proposes general principles and advices of exterior environment design of public buildings, which aims to provide useful ideas for the future designing practices.
