Daily living street (DLS) is the most important and major street type in the cities. As the framework of the urban space constitution, it is not only the cable within the urban area, but also the very significant urban public living space which reflects the features and culture of the city. The DLS indicates the most real aspect of the city; its quality directly shows the standard of the urban design and affects the residents’feeling of the outdoor activities. With the development of the cities, especially the change of the transport modes, the environment of the DLS came into a predicament. The dramatic increase of the vehicles brought the traffic congestions, at the same time the exhaust and noise polluted the environment. The continuous expansion of the urban space and the large-scale residential construction sacrificed the DLS for the expanse. As the government and the city planners did not put the emphasis on the DLS, during the process of massively constructing and renovating the streets, the streets continually expanded to meet the needs of the vehicles, which made the DLS lost their walking space and spirit of place. With the urbanization and needs of the city image and the urban spiritual and cultural construction, people have a higher requirement to the DLS’s development, renovation and construction. According to the activity radius, the DLS not only needs to meet the demand of the young and healthy people, but also to satisfy the senior people who are gradually loosing body functions and eager to communicate in the daily life. However, the DLS as the important outdoor activity space of the senior people was paid very little attention to their needs during the design and construction process, so that the seniors lacked the sense of security and belonging in the DLS space. In the context of the vanishing of DLS and the appearing of an aging society, this paper analyses the status of the DLS and the basic features and requirements of the senior people; and defines the design goal of the DLS. Taking the urban design as the means, starting from its elements, the paper divides the DLS into the macro-spatial, medium-linear, micro-node and street household levels to do the research and build the urban design strategy of the DLS. It pays a lot of attention to the senior people; cares about their feeling and discusses the urban design principles and methods of DLS which integrates the needs of the seniors. Meanwhile it proposes the supporting measures besides design to make sure the design strategy can be well implemented. The goal of this paper is to build a harmonious, comfortable and inclusive street space so that the DLS satisfies all groups of people especially the seniors; and to contribute to the construction and development of the DLS.
