Strain Measurement Techniques as one of the important means of measurement inmechanical engineering, have a wide range of applications in stress analysis ofmechanical parts, mechanism and in the validation of structural strength, stiffness andreliability. But with the progress of the times, the traditional strain test equipment cannot meet the rapid development of test requirements; therefore, it is very necessary toquickly develop high performance virtual strain test equipment. With the rapiddevelopment of virtual instruments and widely used in the test field, it is absolutely toachieve the sharing of hardware and software resources and to build all kinds of testsystems fast and easily using the virtual instrument technology.In this paper, on the basis of a full study of the strain test technology and virtualinstrument technology, a virtual strain tester was developed using the LabVIEWsoftware platform. According to the traditional structure of the strain test system and thefeatures of virtual instrument, the system is divided into two parts including hardwaredesign and software design. The hardware design is the choice of signal conditioningmodules and data acquisition module;the software design is to accomplish thedevelopment of initialization module, system calibration module, data acquisitionmodule, data analysis module, graphical display module, storage and playback module,report printing module and online help module on the framework of the events-cycle-state machine. Finally, the system equipment was integrated and tested, using ofexisting equipment, and experimental tests and practical application were made.Through the research and development of the test system, it totally reflects thevalue of the virtual instrument in the strain measurement. The advantage of powerfulfeatures, simple and efficient development, rich function resources and good opennessand scalability, and then relying on the powerful computing capabilities of the computer,make the virtual instrument completely replace the traditional system is totally possible.It is worth to promote the instruments in application.
