A Study On Remediation Design Of The Local Traditional Architectural Style Of Small Towns

Since reform and opening up, China’s urbanization process gradually acceleratedalong with economic development, and the city’s transportation, land, space,environment and many other social problems have become increasingly prominent. Theconstruction of small towns gradually developed driven by rapid urban expansion, sourban style remediation has also become one of the hottest topic currently. The styleremediation construction activity is developed based on the special economic andtechnological conditions, which is a relatively modest and cost-effective means of urbanrenewal. In small towns, there are a large number of buildings with relatively intactstructure and function, that can and should be update by means of "style remediation".Urbanization has directly contributed to the modern update of the small towns, butalso bring a huge impact on the local culture of small towns. Because of the constraintsof the urban economic conditions and the residents’ level of awareness, many smalltowns are facing a great deal of confusion. The regional characteristics of small townsgradually loss and the convergence phenomenon has become increasingly serious. Inthis paper, we study the basic concept, learn regional elements in-depth, thensummarizes the design strategies of architectural style remediation of the small towns,which are subsequently used in the style design project in Guzhou, Rongjiang, Guizhou.Ultimately, we hope to deepen the understanding of the small town style design by datacollection and strategy summary, and want to provide some meaningful reference forthe similar practice.The thesis research includes five sections as following:1. Introduction: Introduces the research background, the object of study, the topicsof meaning and purpose, content and framework of the paper.2. The theoretical analysis: Analysis the characteristics of the style and theadvantages and disadvantages of status, and then defined the features and characteristicsof the small towns from the feasibility point of view. In addition, this section willintroduce the regional concepts and elements and associate them with small-town style.So we can learn the decisive influence of the three elements-natural environment,socio-cultural, economic and technical-on the small-town architectural style.3. The design strategy: Study and analysis similar cases, learn theories of urbanand architectural design of City Image, the New Urbanism, the Balance of Urban Development, Architectural Aesthetics, Street Aesthetics, Space Combination, and thenproposed geographical characteristics remediation design strategies for urbanarchitectural style.4. Project practice: Take architectural style remediation design in Shiban Street,Guzhou, Rongjiang,Guizhou as an example, to explore the practical application of thedesign strategy. Introduce commence in accordance with the actual steps of the project.5. Research summary: Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the designstrategy, and reiterate the design point of view.
