Abstract/Summary:
With the development of technology, the average life expectancy of the world’spopulation has generally extended. China is a populous country whose population agingtrend is also very rapid, second only to the developed countries in Europe, among whichChongqing has the most serious population aging degree nationwide. Along with theeconomic development, young people’s pressure of life and work rises resulting lesstime for them to accompany the old. As the cultural and economic level of the old grow,their mind changes, and hence institutional senior citizen care model is graduallycoming into everyone’s vision, becoming a new option for the senior citizen care,among whom the urban senior citizens are most readily to change their mind.This thesis starts with the problems of population and family structure of China,compares the developmental status of foreign senior citizen care building, and based onthe comprehensive analysis of the community features of senior citizens and the statusquo of their residential environment, combined with the preliminary investigation of thenursing homes buildings in Chongqing urban area, proposes nursing home residentialbuilding design suitable for the geographical features of Chongqing, senior citizens’characteristics as well as their requirement.This thesis is divided into six chapters:Chapter I introduces the research background and significance, determines theobject of study and scope, explains the basic concepts of the thesis, summarizes thedomestic and international research and practice development status, and lays thefoundation for the commencement of the paper.Chapter II analyzes the physiological, psychological and behavioral characteristicsof the senior citizen group as well as the corresponding architectural strategies for thesecharacteristics.Chapter III analyzes population problem of urban Chongqing area and the carechoice of senior citizens, summarizes the senior citizen care institution status quo of thisarea. It also visits and investigates some large nursing homes to understand the seniorcitizens’ requirements and existent shortcomings of residential buildings.Chapter IV, aiming at the geographic features of Chongqing, analyses the planningstrategy of residential buildings in nursing homes, including site selection, layout aswell as architectural form design. It proposes proper design method for the exterior space of residential building of nursing homes.Chapter V discusses interior space of the residential buildings in nursing homes ofChongqing, which are divided into common space and comprising space, and providesdesign strategies for barrier-free design and physical environment design.Chapter VI is the conclusion.
