The step of mechanical jointing has the heaviest workload in the process of aircraftmanufacturing, and the quality of mechanical jointing has a direct impact on the life-span of theaircraft structure and the performance of the aircraft. In order to improve the quality of mechanicalconnection and production efficiency, it’s necessary to use the automated assembly device.Against this background, this paper presents a thorough study of the end-effector for automateddrilling system and its application process. The topic mainly includes following several aspects:1. The drilling process in one-side pressure for the airplane assembling was proposed, and thesolution of the critical process parameter, pressure was given in the paper. A typical location ofmiddle-fuselage and middle-after fuselage section was taken for example, and the pressure wasanalyzed through FEA.2. The end-effector for the automated drilling system was built to a modular design, and thedetailed design of end-effector was finished in this paper.3. A experimental device was designed to test the analysis result, the experimental device couldachieve five coordinates movement, and it was used in the one-side pressure experiment for curvesurface test sample. The design of test sample, the fixture design and the experimental scheme wasfinished. The research could provide a basic platform for future research.The achievement in this research could be used in automated drilling system, flexible trackdrilling system, industrial robotic arm drilling system, and it has a bright future.
