Mold flux used in the process of continuous casting makes the production smoothand improves the quality of slab, and reasonable mould flux addition technique can makefull use of the mold flux. Automatic mould flux addition technique can be used to acquireaccurate thickness of flux layer in mold, which is hard to achieve manually. Theperformance of automatic addition devices made in China cannot satisfy the applicationrequirements, and the ones made abroad with high price are also unsatisfactory. Anautomatic mold flux feeder with pendulum lever and cam compensation mechanism isstudied in this paper.Based on the process requirements of flux addition, the pendulum lever and camcompensation mechanism is designed to realize the near uniform addition of mold flux.The pendulum lever mechanism consists of a slider-crank mechanism and a rocker-slidermechanism in serial connection, which can achieve sentinel swing of the helicalconveying pipe at the top of the mold; the cam mechanism is designed to compensate forthe vertical displacement of the pendulum lever mechanism; the above mechanismsconnected in parallel are used to realize the near-linear trace of flux addition of the spiralconveying pipe at the top of the mold.Based on the analysis of the law of motion and the structural characteristics in themechanism, a kinematics model is established and the velocity and the accelerationcharacteristics of the key components are set forth.The geometric model and motion simulation model are established using ADAMS.The results show that the deviation between the flux addition trace and the mold wide facein displacement meets the design requirements. Then on the basis of the module structuralsize and location requirements, virtual prototype is established using Pro/E, and themotion characteristics are verified in simulation.By using the finite element analysis software Workbench, the modal analysis of itsbracket is done, natural frequencies and the figures of main vibration mode are obtained.The dynamics analysis of the key parts of the main movement mechanism is done followed, and simulation results show that the key parts have adequate strength andrigidity to meet the design requirements.The research results show that the mold flux addition using automatic mold fluxfeeders in the process of slab continuous casting is automatic, controllable and precise.Meanwhile slab surface defects are reduced, and the slab quality and the laborenvironments are improved.
