Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were a group of additive flameretardants, which were widely used in electronic products and householdproducts. PBDEs were a kind of persistent organic pollutants, existed invarious environmental media and had a potential threat to human body.Research showed that the pathways via inhalation and dust intake wereimportant exposure to human. People spent90%of their time in indoorenvironment, so the indoor environment was more important to health.Hangzhou was selected as the researching site for PBDEs. Activesampling technology was used to collect atmospheric samples in indoorand outdoor environment to systemantically investigate the concentrations, characteristic, then analysed the factors that influenced the concentrationsof PBDEs in indoor air. Investigated the concentrations, characteristic ofPBDEs in the dust samples in indoor and outdoor environment, analysedthe factors that influenced the concentrations of PBDEs in indoor dust. Finally, discussed the human exposure to PBDEs via air and dust. Themajor finding were listed below:1) Atmospheric concentrations of PBDEs in parlours and bedroomswere52.57pg·m-3,44.78pg·m-3. Atmospheric concentrations of PBDEs inoffice was93.22pg·m-3. Atmospheric concentrations of PBDEs in outdoorair was18.60pg·m-3. Pollution was still at a low level, showed that thePBDEs addition in Chinese city was low.2) BDE-47, BDE-99were the main PBDEs congeners in indoor andoutdoor air, which accounted for33.25%,28.45%of∑PBDEs in home,33.69%,32.83%of∑PBDEs in office,34.07%,21.80%of∑PBDEs inoutdoor air.3) Proportion of BDE-28, BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-153, BDE-183ingaseous phase was about80%,60%,60%,50%,30%, respectively. All ofthe BDE-28was in the gaseous phase and the proportion of other PBDEsin gaseous phase were more than70%in the outdoor air. Temperature wasthe major reason. Gas-particle partitioning analysis suggested that thedominant mechanism was probably adsorption by the organic matter. TheJunge-Pankow adsorption model and KOAadsorption model can predictthe gas-particle partitioning of BDE-28, BDE-47, but can’t predict thegas-particle partitioning of BDE-153, BDE-183well.4) Concentrations of PBDEs in indoor air had a significantly positivecorrelation (P<0.01) with the number of electrical equipment, the service of electrical equipment and had a significantly negative correlation(P<0.01) with the ventilation time.5) Dust concentrations of PBDEs in home, office, outdoorenvironment was33.62ng·g-1,42.12ng·g-1,15.42ng·g-1, respectively.6) BDE-28, BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-153, BDE-183accounted for4.24%,19.77%,20.65%,18.29%,37.07%of∑PBDEs in indoor dust, respectively, and accounted for4.09%,19.68%,14.72%,8.35%,53.14%of∑PBDEs in indoor dust, respectively. Correlation analysis implied thatPBDEs in atmosphere of Hangzhou primarily came from Penta-BDE andOcta-BDE commercial mixtures.7) Concentrations of PBDEs in indoor dust had no correlation withthe number of electrical equipment, the number of foam chair, the serviceof electrical equipment, but had a significantly negative correlation(P<0.05) with the ventilation time.8) Investigate the exposure value of PBDEs from air and dust, resultshowed that the average exposure value of infants, children, indoorworkers, outdoor workers, postgraduate were2.20,1.64,1.64,1.85,1.44,1.97ng·d-1, respectively.
