The Design Study On Small-dwelling Size Furniture

In current years, high house prices make a large number of consumers with limitedeconomic strength more tend to buy dwelling-size rooms of lower price and smaller area. Thetraditional bulky furniture with single functions has been unable to adapt to relatively narrowsmall dwelling-size rooms. The research and development of new small dwelling-sizefurniture can maximize the resolution of the contradiction between small dwelling-size spaceand bulky furniture. Solving this problem is the top priority of the furniture design.The present paper, starting with the relation between man, small-dwelling size furnitureand man, small-dwelling size furniture and small-dwelling size living space, studies theinevitable relation between man and small-dwelling size furniture, small-dwelling sizefurniture and small-dwelling size living space, in such aspects as human body dimension, thesize of small-dwelling size furniture, and the functional space of small-dwelling size, etc, tofurther explain the significant role that human body dimension, the size of small-dwelling sizefurniture, and the functional space of small-dwelling size living room play in the design ofsmall-dwelling size furniture. Human body dimension determines the size of small-dwellingsize furniture, and small-dwelling size living space restricts small-dwelling size furniture.Therefore, the restrictions of the features of human physiological structure and small-dwellingsize living room to small-dwelling size furniture should be considered, when small-dwellingsize furniture is being designed, and small-dwelling size furniture products should bereasonably and effectively utilized in the space of small-dwelling size room to organize anddivide the different functional spaces. In Chapter3, the present paper expatiates the reform ofour national housing form, and analyzes the objective factors for the current small residentialpopularity, only to find that the greatest feature of small-dwelling size room is the narrowspace, consolidation and shrinking of functional space, after the case analysis of the typicalsmall-dwelling size room. The present paper classifies the consumer groups of small dwellingrooms as the young consumers and analyzes the characteristics of young consumers from thepoint of Psychology, by adopting Multiple Social Stratification Theory and ConsumptionPsychology. Some design principles of designing small dwelling–size room furniture arederived, which are multi-function principle, space-saving principle, safety principle and Greendesign principle, through the case analysis of changing furniture functions and the appearance forms in the furniture market, by means of folding，combination，crimp，or sliding in and outand so on.A great quantity of data have been obtained by the combination of searching a largenumber of related literatures and inquiry into fieldwork market. Besides, induction andsummarization are made on the basis of analysis of related literatures, theories and dataresearch. Under the guidance of multi-function principle, space-saving principle, safetyprinciple and Green design principle, design practice will be carried out based on an overallconsideration of some factors like functions, size, structure, materials and colors of smalldwelling-size furniture. Finally, a brand of multi-functional small dwelling-size furnitureapplicable to small dwelling-size living space will be designed to meet the the actual needs ofsmall dwelling-size consumer groups. The present paper also serves as a theoretical supportfor the design research of our national multi-functional furniture.
