With the development of the society, people's life style and their requirement of an enjoyable life has been upgraded. Since China rolled out many house-purchasing policies, small dwelling-size apartments gradually became popular. The purchasing craze of this type of apartments reveals people's need for small dwelling-size furniture. Furniture, as mediation between architectural spaces to human life, plays a significant role in both living and working environment. A suitable set of furniture is essential for small dwelling-size apartments which provide limited indoor architectural space. Presently, because there are few types of small dwelling-size furniture in the market and the related theory basis is insufficient, it is still necessary to research on the theory and practice of small dwelling-size furniture designing.This thesis collected excellent furniture designing cases from both home and abroad, drafted a questionnaire based on the overall recognition of the developing trend and necessity of today's furniture and small dwelling-size furniture. The questionnaire conducted a sampling survey and statistical analysis on today's furniture and its related products, consumer's consumption and product-using psychology and the market as well. The thesis conducted a detailed analysis and research on many aspects involved in small dwelling-size furniture design and utility including space, color, style and users' psychology.In this thesis, a systematic and target-oriented theory system of furniture design and research in small dwelling-size apartments and its similar special space was formed on the basis of the existing furniture design theory study from both China and abroad. This thesis was concluded by designing a piece of small dwelling-size furniture directed by the academic results of this thesis in order to test its research value and feasibility in the related fields.
