The ecosystem is a support system for every kind of life on the earth. It offers the basic living material for human-beings. Ecosystem service is a significant index to evaluate the environment and sustainable development of the ecosystem. The value of the ecosystem service can be the scientific grounds for government to make macro regulation and control policy. This study chooses the coastal area of Jiaxing as the typical study region. It is more meaningful to study on how to evaluate the ecosystem service of this type of area due to its sensitive environment. With summarizing the previous research achievement, this study firstly discusses the differences between the concepts of ecosystem service and ecosystem function, the category system of ecosystem service and the research development of ecosystem service value assessment. Then, on this basis, it is constructed the ecosystem service classification frame and value assessing models of this research. The accurate study region is extracted by using the multi-threshold segmentation technology and classified into5classes with unsupervised classification method. And then this research tried to get NDVI, vegetation coverage and net primary production through RS inversion. The ecosystem value of the study region in1998,2005and2010is assessed after all computation above. The result shows that:The ecosystem service total value in1998,2005and2010is8.484,11.84and10.107billion RMB respectively. The higher-value pixels are distributed in field and forest ecosystems and the lower ones are in building land and beach ecosystems. The order of different ecosystem contribution rate to total value is field>forest>wetland>building land>water. The order of different services value is climate regulation>soil conservation>food supply>water conservation>air quality regulation>organic production>entertainment&travel>raw materials supply>spirit&culture. The ecosystem value of the study area is increased in2005, then decreased in 2010.It is illustrated that the ecosystem environment in2010turns to be deteriorated but still better than1998.This research shows that the ecosystem service value can reflect the changes of the ecosystem environment objectively and is a scientific reference for local government to launch the sustainable development projects.
