Industrial design, a combination of science and arts based on engineering,aesthetics, ecnomics and ergonomics, is a comprehensive design and productionprocess. It is also a creative activity. The role of an industrial designer is tocreate and execute design solutions towards problems of form, usability,physical ergonomics, marketing, brand development and sales.A roadheader is called a boom-type roadheader, road header machine, roadheader or just header machine. Roadheaders are the most widely usedunderground partial-face excavation machines for low to medium strength rocks.They are used for both development and production in soft rock mining industry(i.e. main haulage drifts, roadways, cross-cuts, etc.) particularly in coal,sedimentary rocks, industrial minerals and evaporitic rocks. In civil construction,they find extensive use for excavation of tunnels in soft ground conditions, aswell as for enlargement and rehabilitation of various underground structures.Their ability to excavate almost any profile opening also makes them veryattractive to those mining and civil construction projects where various openingsizes and profiles need to be constructed.In our country, coal industry is the basis estate, plays an important role inthe national economy because coal is an important energy scource and strategymaterial. Generally, mine coal is exploited in well pit. In order to get coal, it isnessesary to exploit a large number of coal lane. The cutting head is theimportant process in the coal production, and the excavate technology andexcavate machine are critical in the coal production and savity. The efficientexcavate technology is a basis to provide high output of coal production, and alsois the study focus.According to the agreement on the desigh of EBZ260H boom-typeroadheader signed by SANYI company and Hunan University, this thesis ismainly centred on the following twe research aspects:1) The development anddesign tendency of roadheader, custom requirements and form style of theroadheader have been reviewed, which provides a basis of disign of proprovingroadheader.2) The industrial design on the EBZ260H boom-type roadheader,especially, on the machine ensemble, moving section, back sustain, backplate, electrically controlled operating floor of the roadheader have been carried out.3)The modelling design, colour design, physical ergonomics design and brandsdesign of the roadheader have been investigated.
