The transfer needles are the key part of computerized flat knitting machines, they participate in the knitting fabric directly. The performance of transfer needles has a great influence of the fabric quality. The demand for the transfer needles is great every year. However, by the restriction of the technology about the knitting needles’manufacturing in our country, the manufacturing of the top grade transfer needle applied to new Computerized flat knitting machines is still a blank. Donghua University is developing domestic top grade transfer needles, as a part of it, this paper introduces the research on the technology and machine for transfer needle grooves machining.Compared with the other knitting needles, the biggest difference is the design of more grooves in the surface. These grooves are high for processing precision and size consistency, so transfer needle grooves machining is a technical difficult in transfer needle production and manufacturing. This topic analyses the processing method and puts forward a methods which directed at transfer needle grooves machining, based on the traditional nc-copy modeling machine. The research includes the following aspects of content.(1) Comprehensive analysis the grooves shape and position characteristics in the transfer needle, choose appropriate processing method and formulate the corresponding process scheme.(2) Design the whole processing of the machine according to the processing schemes. And on the basis of the design requirements, so choose a similar structure and milling machine to be modified, from the three aspects of feeding place, CAM trip and cutting force, then modify the milling machine and it can meet needs of grooves machining.(3) Design the reasonable cutting tools and positioning the clamping fixtures in order to reduce repeat positioning error and on the set of technology production verification.(4) From the angle of management of production site for analysis, improve, and propose optimization solution in order to have higher production efficiency. The machine can be controlled in processing error within0.01mm by means of improved and analysed these parts, which were back and feeding parts, cam trip, cutting tools, cutting force, frock clamp and so on. After verification of the production practice, converted machine can meet the six grooves processing and can move stably. From the quality of the grooves machining, manufacturing precision, size consistency and surface roughness all achieve the technical requirements.In order to realize the transfer needle grooves machining more and stable production processing, analysed and improved the production filed from the view of management in groove machining, then put forward the optimization schemes and improve the production efficiency finely, so it is help to more production promotion.
