With the restructuring of global manufacturing, a large number of advanced manufacturing technology concepts have been proposed. As one of advanced manufacturing technology, production system simulation is widely used. Many problems are effectively solved through the use of the technology, for example: a real production line testing will destroy the normal operation, it is difficult to change parameters as expected or to get the required test conditions, test time is too long, the cost is too much or the experiment is dangerous etc. As an excellent production system simulation platform, QUEST gives users both a graphical user interface (GUI) for fast model-building and a powerful programming language for robustness and accuracy, supporting simulation analyses at every level of detail and user expertise. In this paper, the production line for sheet metal parts is simulated with Quest. First, geometric modeling techniques were applied to sheet metal production line, SCL simulation language was used for the process logic and rout logic, the batch programs was developed combined with the SCL and BCL simulation language for part creation , deletion and process information , the simulation of the production line for the sheet metal parts was realized finally. Then the capacity was assessed, the utilization of equipment and personnel was quantified, the output of the simulation data was analyzed. On this basis, the improved scheme was proposed and the original simulation model and logic and were adjusted to achieve an improved simulation program. At last the improvement program is simulated and compared with the previous.
