Geoheritage is the legacy of a valuable fortune during the evolution of the Earth’sdevelopment. China possesses vast geographical area, special geological structure, complexgeographical environment and a variety of geoheritage resources. As we know thegeoheritage resources are non-renewable, what makes matters worse is that the laws andregulations of geoheritage protection are relatively lagging behind. With the time going on,geoheritage has been destroyed by the natural and human factors, conservation for thegeoheritage resources could not be waited any longer.Mount Tianzhu Global Geopark, which covers an area of41,314hm2, is a granite peakcluster landform. Owing to the abundant resources of geoheritage, it has the outstandingaesthetic value, scientific value and historical value. Mount Tianzhu geoheritage resourceshave social, economic and ecological benefits, It has the significance of spreading geologicalscientific knowledge for education, the stability of economic in Qianshan country and thepromotion of biodiversity conservation when it has rational protections. This thesis has thefollowing aspects:(1)First of all, from the point of the relationship between natural heritage andgeoheritage, the thesis gives the definition of geoheritage based on previous researches. Andit also analyses the existing specific circumstances of the geoheritage by using thequantification and classification statistics of the existing188natural heritage sites. The authorputs up a brief description of the geoheritage protection history: National Park, WorldHeritage, and Global Geopark.(2)Secondly, from the case of Mount Tianzhu Global Geopark in An Hui, the thesismakes a detailed analysis of the basic characteristics of Mount Tianzhu natural andgeographical conditions, geological background, the development of history and natural andcultural values, which based on extensive literature review and field research of MountTianzhu. What’s more, according to the changes of the numbers of tourists in Mount Tianzhu,the author draws the life cycle diagram which will provide some guidance for the tourism development of Mount Tianzhu.(3)Thirdly, the thesis sums up the plight of the Mount Tianzhu Global Geoparkencountered in the extension of the life cycle and gives its corresponding measures. Thesemeasures emphasize on the integrity, exploitation geological connotation, then enhancing thespace competitiveness, as well as increasing publicity and education. In addition, it analysesthe feasibility of Mount Tianzhu applying for a World Natural Heritage. In recent years, therehas been a trend of stressing the geology and ecology of the heritage of scientific value whenUNESCO nominates a Heritage. Mount Tianzhu is known for its outstanding universalscientific value and aesthetic value, which has the possibility to apply for world naturalheritage successfully.(4)Finally, following sustainable development as the guiding ideology, adhering toboth development and protection, paying attention to heritage education, the author advocatesbuilding one green development and ecological civilization road with the foundation ofgeological knowledge, and the auxiliary of heritage characteristics.
