With the development of our economy, China is confronted with increasinglyserious energy crisis. And the slather of traditional energy resources brings us lots ofaustere environment problems. Alternative energy sources must be explored to reducedependence on fossil fuels. Tidal stream energy is a reliable, clean and renewableenergy source. Shandong peninsula has an abundant tidal stream energy resource, andthere is an excellent development value in many coastal regions for their suitabledevelopment environment and conditions. The exploitation and utilization of tidalstream energy resources can not only be possible to alleviate our country’s energypressure, improve energy structure, simultaneously is also advantageous to meetChina’s need for environmental protection and the sustainable development.Tidal stream energy is one important kind of ocean renewable energy. Toinvestigate tidal stream energy resource has to be paid much attention beforeinstalling tidal stream power generating instruments. So the candidate article willstudy and investigate tidal stream energy around Shandong peninsula. The methodsand other processes are following.Numerical simulation method is adopted to get the tidal current of Shandongpeninsula surrounding waters for one year. The main4tide components’(O1、K1、M2、S2) harmonic constants and elliptic elements are calculated through using tidalharmonic analysis method. The output of the tidal current modeling reaches therequired precision according to a comparison between the calculated tidalamplitudes/phases and the observed ones at12coastal tidal gauge station. Thus, theco-tidal patterns from calculations match observations, the results shows thereliability of the tidal current model. The characteristics of tidal currents aroundShandong peninsula are analyzed and the following tidal streams power density iscalculated. In terms of numerical results, the tidal current velocities given by the modelagree with the measured velocities generally. The maximum tidal stream energydensity occurs around Chengshantou in the eastern end Shandong peninsula.Secondly, three-dimensional numerical model is used in marine tidal-currentenergy calculation of the sea off Chengshantou. the tidal energy mainly concentratedin the east and south waters. The north of the water is a Black Isle sub-reef,surrounded by shallow water, which flew in low speed, so the tidal energy of this areawas smaller; the speed of the water in the south and east, more than30m, was greatertoo, the tidal energy of this area was increasing by the depth and velocity increased.Flux method gained the potential power was122.85MW, the exploitable amount was18.43MW.The results will be meaningful to developers of tidal streams energy aroundShandong peninsula areas.
