As a renewable, pollution-free new energy resource, wave energy is an important part ofthe coastal areas economy. The development of wave energy can bring certain economicbenefits. What’s more, its development position often locates at the economically developedcoastal areas, where huge amount of energy is needed. Therefore, in recent years, waveenergy has attracted more and more attention of the coastal countries. From the long-term view, investing a certain amount of money to this clean, renewableenergy at the present stage, is of great significance to the development of the coastal areaseconomy. In this article, the third generation of shallow water wave prediction model SWAN wasused to simulate the wave data of the Shandong Peninsula from the year1996to2011,withthe wind as the driving force. The simulation results were compared with the observation data. The comparison shows the model is suitable for the wave simulation of the local area. After the validation, the simplified method of Kim, the simplified method of deep waterand the direct solving method are used to evaluate the wave energy of the Shandong Peninsularespectively. The comparison between the three methods was made. The results show that thesolutions that calculated by these two kinds of simplified methods are larger than the solutionsof the direct solving method. And the solutions that calculated by the simplified method ofKim is larger than that of the deep water method. But there is a strong correlation between thesolutions that calculated by these two kinds of simplified methods and the direct solvingmethod. So, the simplified methods can also be used to solve problems. In addition, comparedwith the direct solving method and the simplified method of deep water, the simplifiedmethod of Kim is simpler and quicker. After that, the article studied the wave energy distribution of Shandong Peninsula toprovide some information for the selection of the locations where wave energy resources wereto be developed. And detailed research and analysis are made at the Chengshantou headland,Yellow River Delta and the Langyatai headland to provide some information for the layoutand the selection of wave power device. Finally, the Delft3D-SWAN module was used to study the change of the wave climateand the wave induced current after the wave power device layout. And the study found: afterthe layout of wave power generation device, the wave height and the velocity of the waveinduced flow will become significantly smaller. But, in certain areas the velocity of the waveinduced flow become bigger. This is mainly due to the complicated topography of the localarea. The variation of the wave height is also affected by topography. When the wavesmeet obstacles, due to wave diffraction, wave height will gradually resume. But, when there isa small island, the wave height recovery will be weakened.
