Research Of Sheng Xuanhuai Science And Technology Thoughts

The present research material on Sheng Xuanhuai, which are conducted mainly from the perspectives of his industry and educational achievements, haven’t paid much attention to his creation in Chinese modern science and technology. Based on such circumstance, this thesis focuses on Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts.This thesis consists of two aspects to elaborate Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts. One is from the practical application of science and technology by industrial enterprises, the other is from his understanding to the relation between Science and Technology and Industry. With these two aspects as main lines, this thesis bears a following outline.Firstly, to discuss the formation of Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts.Secondly, to discuss the content of Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts, which is expounded from the perspectives to bring in Western science and technology institutions and to have them localized. This thesis proposes that there are four parts in Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts, namely, administration ideas, talent thoughts, education thoughts and military initiation. By through of activities such as setting up industries, founding education, applying talents and building national defence, Sheng Xuanhuai had his science and technology thoughts formed from the practice of awareness and understanding of the function and role of science and technology in the Modernization of Chinese society.Lastly, from its historical function and realistic care, to evaluate the significance and historical limitation of Sheng Xuanhuai’s science and technology thoughts.
