From time immemorial, sericulture is the most important subsidiary production in Sichuan. Therefore, abundant experience has been gained during the long-period practice. The traditional production way relies predominantly on cottage industry. When it comes to modern times, a series of changes have been made to the production method of sericulture in Sichuan. It is highlighted in the highly strengthening degree of commercialization, especially for the emerging filature factories in modern times, which stimulated the development of commercialization economy of Sichuan sericulture and caused a series of changes in production tools, ways of operation and management, etc. As a result, it objectively promoted the procedure of modernization for Sichuan. The 5 stages of sericulture production are as follows: mulberry planting, seed breeding, silkworm feeding, silk reeling and spinning. Each stage is closely connected to each other, which constitutes as a unity. Thus, to do research on the entirety of Sichuan sericulture industry, rather than limit the scale of traditional academic research on one aspect, clearer recognition about sericulture industry can be acquired from the entire scope. The first emerging place is Santai and Hechuan for modernization of the sericulture production in Sichuan. The improvement of producing tools was conducted primarily, which greatly improved the efficiency of silk reeling. Spurred by Santai and Hechuan, the sericulture rush came in Sichuan for developing modern sericulture industry. So, it is of great reference value to know more about the influence of modernization of Sichuan sericulture industry to the whole social economy by analyzing the process of development, change and specific situation for sericulture production in Santai and Hechuan.
