With the entrance to WTO, China's market has integrated with international market and the foreign trade has made great breakthroughs. As developing countries, we not only learning, imitating developed advanced science and technology to improve our own technological level by international trade, but also we can make up for deficiencies of R & D investment to accelerate the pace of technological innovation and rapidly improve the technical level, so, develop international trade is an important channel to promote productivity and economic development. This paper firstly reviewed the existing literature related on the international trade and TFP, then use the data envelopment analysis (DEA) to calculate China's total factor productivity, technical efficiency and technological progress index from 2002 to 2008. From the results, We find that our country's total factor productivity growth of manufacturing industry is mainly due to the enhancement of technological level, rather than technical efficiency. Then, using EVIEWS software to do cointegration test to study the influence of import and export trade to the TFP and its decomposition variables from the overall level by panel data. The overall regression results of manufacturing industry shows that imports have a significant positive effect on the growth of total factor productivity and technological progress, exports hinder the growth of total factor productivity growth and technological progress. Then the paper group the 28 manufacturing industries by industry technical standards and industry size, do cointegration test separately. The regression results of industry groups shows that the import and export trade have a different influence on productivity growth in different sectors. Finally, based on the result of empirical analysis and link the problems in our country's import and export trade, the essay puts forward some policy suggestions.
