H Company is a state-owned enterprise, engaged in single piece and small batch production of heavy machinery. When the single small lean production theory has not been made substantial progress, H tried to use the theory of lean production to promote practice work, and obtained apparent effect. It has important practical significance.Lean manufacturing is a management philosophy derived mostly from the Toyota Production System. After tens of years of studying,, the achievement of lean thinking theories by the international best-seller book called The Machine That Changed the World. There are also lots of scholars and organizations working on lean manufacturing studies and providing consultation services accordingly.Theoretically, the design and the prospect of lean manufacturing are attractive; while practically, there are few companies who implemented lean theory could be completely successful due to the following three reasons. Firstly, lean manufacturing is mostly limited to the industry and the property of the company; secondly, it is affected by the outer environment very much; lastly, it is largely depend on the quality of human resources and the workers'behavior habits, which could hardly reach the requirements in domestic nowadays.As for the industries implemented lean manufacturing and their measures, we could find that most of the enterprises tend to start improvements on one key point, usually pushing "5S", "logistics", "inventory adjusting", seldom involving the original company structures and their management modes.Considering the feature of company's products and the particularity of its manufacturing mode, this paper helped H to find its core competence, using lean manufacturing managements, including set up responsibility system of project managers focused on the three elements of products:quality, cost and delivery; and improve quality, reduce cost, ensure delivery time, meet customers'requirements, through cooperation of a variety of methods.At last, after all the measures had been put in use, the quality, cost, and delivery time of H's products had been improved enormously, which improved that lean manufacturing had played a positive role in helping H company to find its core competence.
