This article starts with an introduction to differences between the traditional project management and the modern diversified project management based on the actual situations in the daily operations of the small and medium-sized IT enterprises. Then it combines with A-Online Payment Platform Project cases to highlight the advantages of modern project management in software development nowadays through analyzing and studying the modern project management.Analyzing Project A, some difficulties met by enterprises under traditional management model are listed in chapter two, for instance, delayed project completion, deviation of system functions from customer's demands in the early period after project acceptance and delayed completion & management disorder due to personnel cross-setting between project teams. Based on these facts, this chapter analyzes the disadvantages and deficiencies of the traditional project management in the small and medium-sized IT enterprises, and makes further study on the frequent problems encountered by such enterprises.As to how to choose proper project management methods and how to avoid the above problems in current project development, chapter three discusses common management problems in the small and medium-sized IT enterprises based on the typical cases in Project A. The causes of some problems are respectively discussed and analyzed in this chapter, for example, unreasonable project staffing, unobvious performance effect, unbalanced responsibility and authority of project manager (responsibility far outweighs authority), delayed completion due to personnel cross-setting between project teams and insufficient management of company on projects and customer demands etc.. Countermeasures and suggestions to improve and enhance IT project management are proposed in chapter four based on the analysis of Project A cases. It particularly points out the importance of taking diversified project management means and optimizing staffing in the small and medium-sized IT enterprises. It asks to, in each stage and each link of project, strictly implement project management process and demand management, adopt project-oriented organization structure in staffing, make full use of project management advantages, and minimize negative influences on project implementation caused by problems such as limited authority of project manager and incompatible staffing. It raises some useful suggestions, in combination with problems in Project A, to help solve problems such as incompatible staffing, unobvious performance effect, inappropriate authority setting of project manager and improper project personnel deployment.In the small and medium-sized IT enterprises, staffing in project management is usually limited by a tight budget. In case of personnel cross-setting among project teams, how to allocate resources by project manager becomes a problem that needs urgent solutions for small and medium-sized IT enterprises. At the end of this article, it has also discussed how to allocate the authority between organizations and projects according to the actual demands of each project to reduce management disorder caused by personnel changes and jurisdiction overlaps among project managers and make modern project management means play a positive role in the small and medium-sized IT enterprises, and, in the situation of multiple projects, make diversified project management means better suit the actual situation of small and medium-sized IT enterprises. Finally, this article puts forward suggestions on how to improve Project A management, and further extends to how to optimize the project management in the small and medium-sized IT enterprises. It emphatically presents that after taking the optimization suggestions and by means of diversified project management, small and medium-sized IT enterprises can raise their production efficiency, enhance the quality of software products, improve internal communication model, strengthen the communication between management and ordinary staff, fully mobilize the enthusiasm of the staff and emphasize the importance of communication. Results of those optimization suggestions fully prove that modern project management brings benefits to the small and medium-sized IT enterprises and demonstrate by case analysis and actual practice that project management plays an important role in improving efficiency and optimizing management.
