Owing to the rapid development of the global economy, the development of service industry and service trade present new trends and characteristics, while competitive strength of service trade of a country is the most imporatant standard of its overall international competitiveness. In most developed countries, service industries are playing a leading role in the country's economic development. In this international background, the development of China's service trade presents a steadily rising development situation, and the volum of import and exports also leapts into the top of the world. However, there still exist some defects in the the development of China's service trade with the rapid development in the total volum of service trade, which leads to the weak international competitiveness for Chinese service trade. Therefore, the study on how to enhance the international competitiveness of China's service trade has practical significance in the development of service trade and the improvement of the overall national strength.Based on the theory study of service trade and competitive advantage, this paper has constructed the assessment system of international competitiveness of service trade and analysed the development trend of service trade at home and abroad as well as the characteristics of present situation. On this basis, the data of import and export of service trade in typical countries in recent years has been selected, in order to compare the competitiveness of service trade of different countries and measure the international competitiveness of Chinese service trade. Through analysis and comparison, this paper illustrated the international rankings and status of China's service trade and figure out the gap of service trade between China and leading developed countries, put forward the proposals to change competition situation and enhance competitiveness of service. The main conclusions has been obtained on the basis of research of international competitiveness of Chinese service trade:firstly, Chinese service trade does not have stronger international competitiveness for the time being because it is still weak, but the potential space is quite large. Chinese service trade srarted later than other ountries and its development scale was laged behind other countries. Thus, it is difficult to reverse the deficit of services trade and vulnerable position in international competition in the short term. Even though, the development level of Chinese service trade is taking the leading place among developing countries. Secondly, China's service trade has had a considerable development, and its international competitiveness has been increased. However, the unreasonable development structure and the lackness of senior production elements still affect the power of international competition. Through the analysis of competitiveness evaluation index, the competition power of service trade proved to be weaker. This analysis also reflects that the industries like construction, advertising, computering and information have obvious advantages over those capital and technology intensive industries like finance, insurance in international competition. It has been verified that there exist some defects in the existing structure of service trade and the scarcity of talent and development system. Thirdly, as this paper has proposed, measures should be taken in order to improve the competitive ability of service and change competition situation. Our state should take strategies to strengthen cultivation of human resources, optimize the internal structure of servive industries, advance the development of productive services by developing the high- tech industries, strengthen auxiliary function of government and focus on the innovation of service enterprise.
