China s economy has developed rapidly in recent years, and it has become the second biggest economy around the world. Thus, millions of well-trained people to support and maintain such a big economic scale are needed. And as we have seen in China, the demands for more and more well-trained people are increasing day by day. But due to the increasing demand of well-trained talents and people of specific skills, China is still in short of these people. How to fill the gap? 1: to educate and train more people; 2: to optimize or restructure the knowledge and skills of talents. Under such conditions, the continuing education market, aimed to educate and train people, has been developing very quickly. Since the continuing education market is getting bigger and the expectations of the students on these programs are becoming higher, to create and maintain these programs and projects has turned out to be a complicated and tough job. The traditional style of management has been proved to be outdated, which is why we have to adopt the theory of project management, in order to make these projects in the continuing education market more humanized and attractive. But the theory of project management has only been introduced to the field of continuing education for a short time, and the criterion cannot be fully understood or applied, which was part of the reason why some courses became unpopular and some new training projects failed. This dissertation aims to introduce the theory and practice of project management applied in the field of education, including the structure of the project team, the responsibility of each team member and the cooperation and collaboration between them, the blueprint of the project, requirement analysis, the practice and the carrying out of the plan, risk management, evaluation and so on. Besides, this dissertation will also provide some solutions to solve the problems that may be encountered in each part mentioned above. Then the author will take an example to demonstrate how to apply the theory of project management in the real world. Through the example, some questions will be discussed, like how to develop a new project more smoothly, how to make the project well-organized, how to evaluate the risks and the quality of the project objectively, and how to strike a balance between getting profits and gaining good feedbacks from the society.This dissertation focuses in the following four aspects:1. to introduce the general ideas of the theory of the project management.2. to introduce the theory and practice of project management applied in the field of education, and compare the differences of project management between the field of education and in some other fields.3. to demonstrate the benefits of the appliance of project management through a specific example.4. to point out some defects of applying project management in the field of continuing education, and provide some solutions to fix them.
