Research On Technology Standard Alliance And Cororate Technology Innovation In China

At the background of globalization, focus of competition among corporation has changed from products to technology innovation, and now to technology standard. Corporations have become partners and competitors at the same time strategic alliance has become the major mode for cooperation among companies since 80's last century. Technology alliance is among the strategic alliance and becomes the main form for several companies cooperating together and competing for technology standard. The goal of competing for technology standard is to gain the value of monopoly. Our DVD industry and Mobile Communication industry has been in a negative position compared to other countries, due to not having the rights of setting standards. In recent years, our country has paid more attention on the standards and technology standard alliance. With the help of government, we now have TD-SCDMA alliance, IGRS alliance. These alliances give positive impact on the improvement of corporation technology innovation ability. Technology standard alliance plays a significant role in technology innovation and participation in international standard-setting competition for companies in our country. Using the information industry in our country as an example and combining the theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, this article explores the relationship between technology standard alliance and corporation technology innovation, analyzing how the technology standard alliance impacts the corporations'technology innovation and their technology innovation performance.First, the basic theories on technology standard alliance and corporation technology innovation are separately concluded. The motivation of forming technology standard alliance and the characteristic of the alliance and technology innovation are studied. Second, based on the inter-organizational learning theory, knowledge management theory and learning capability theory, the internal mechanism of the technology standard alliance and the corporation technology innovation is concluded. This article then concludes the external mechanism of the technology standard alliance and corporation technology innovation after analyzing the main elements, the mode and the external innovation environment of technology standard alliance. Third, a panel data model is set. After model specification, unit root test and cointegration test, the parameter of the model is estimated and the correlationship of the technology standard alliance, corporation R&D tendency and the corporation innovation performance is studied.This article comes to the following two conclusions: (1) in the information industry of our country, being one member of technology standard alliance, companies could improve their technology innovation performance. For the resource motivation, transaction cost motivation and network externalities reason, companies settle a technology standard alliance using the contract as a link, saving market transaction costs and helpful to jointly technology innovation. The government tends to support the technology standard alliance, therefore this could improve the innovation performance of companies in the alliance; (2) In the information industry of China, companies in the alliance could improve their innovation performance through raising their R&D input tendency. Companies from the alliance could raise their absorptive capacity through increasing R&D input, therefore the inter-organizational learning ability. Companies could improve the absorption efficiency of knowledge and improve the technology innovation performance of the company. As a result, in order to promote technology innovation of companies in information industry of our country and improve competitive power of technology standard of our country, we should set up the technology standard alliance and develop the information industry. At the end of the article, several proposals are raised for using technology standard alliance to promote corporation technology innovation.
