City Historic District Recreation Imagery Analysis

The study about urban recreational space has been mainly focused on the cities and towns in China while the concept of city image offers a new perspective and method for the recreational researcher to study city historic district. Compared with the city image study abroad, it has just initiated in China. Consequently the approaches have not drawn sufficient attention and more basic and applied studies need to be conducted.The thesis combines city recreational image with historic district to study the typical case Confucius Temple Historic District. The present author applied the methods and theories such as questionnaires, geography, psychology and architecture to explore the elements, main parts and influential factors of historic district in the light of evaluations and constructional spatial image and provides instructive suggestions on recreational images.The conclusions of the research are as follows:1. The impression and reputation to Confucius Temple Historic District is quite unfavorable in terms of evaluation scales and their perception about recreational areas are diversified, which is influenced by such factors as their residential period, familiarity about the city, gender, age, education and income.2. In the light of structural image, the researcher studies the statistics on cognitive map and finds that the official websites recommends attractions that need improving. The spatial image framework about Confucius Temple Historic District has been constructed regarding the factors main road, river and Central Square.3. The author has studied the influential factors of recreational image, explored the relationship between four main factors in the historic district recreational image and image degree and analyzed the elements that affect the image degree.4. The author has sorted out the factors of recreational image and classified them with the aid of reputation degree and degree of impression in the four dimensions in the light of evaluation image and structural image and provides possible suggestions to better it.The innovation of the work of this paper can be listed as follows:1. City image theory has been introduced to the study of urban historic district and a new perspective and framework has been provided to the recreational study. 2. A quantitative study on recreational image has been made and the connectional framework on city historic district recreational image construction has been formed.
