With the current rapid economic development and the grimly continuing security situation, as security principal means and important component, the video surveillance technology has been more and more extensively concerned and studied by people. After years of rapid development, the video surveillance system has gradually entered from the original analog video surveillance period to the present embedded network video monitoring times. Embedded system, taking applications as the core, based on computer technology, has the feature that hardware and software can be cut, and is of great advantages of strong stability, little power consumption, small size and low cost. These characteristics are in line with the currently wide application, diversified levels and the large differences of needs.With the development of computer technology, communications technology, signal acquisition and processing technology and network technology, as well as huge demand for the services of security and video images of the ordinary individual, the video surveillance system technology will have a great developing opportunity. Due to the wide range of applications and multifarious requirement, the theoretical and actual researches of the video surveillance system show a variety of characteristics. Products, of various structures and technologies, emerge in endlessly. Aiming at the upgrade telecommunications network reconstruction and the substantial optimization of the tariff and services of the home network, this paper designs an embedded network video surveillance system for personal, family and small business users. The system, taking ARM chip as the hardware core and equipped with the Linux operating system, uses the network video servers of transplantation to provide video network access. Combining of the embedded technology and network technology ultimately makes the system has a simple structure and the products have advantages of stability, easily developing and good cost performance.This article mainly includes three aspects:the form of hardware platform, the software environment construction and designing of application module. Hardware platform mainly contains S3C2410controller, storage module, acquisition module, transmission module, download and debug modules. Systematic software part includes bootloader vivi, operating system kernel and file system which can read and write based on NAND FLASH. Application modules includes USB camera device drivers used for video capture, application program for video capturing and data sending, and embedded network video server. First, the video collects information through the USB WEBcam static compresses directly using the built-in image compression module so it could conveniently transfer and storage. Second, the video collecting and sending module on the controller dynamic compresses the video data after collecting by USB WEBcam. At last, embedded network video server sends the data through the net module and provides remote access service. The experimental results show that the design in this paper is feasible. The expected requirements of monitoring effect has been achieved by and large.
