Reality geography object is present in there continuous distribution,but,in recently,2D GIS can not really describe the there dimensional world.The2D GIS is affected by the existing's ability to deal with problems,it makes knowing space and the method of dealing with promlems is not consensus.So,we need to research the expression of multidimensional space information and the way ofcommunication.How to construct the real geography world has become the most of one of issues of GIS.Virtual reality technology has been applied to the establishment of "Digital Campus",which can provide a new approach for the planning an design of the campus. Virtual threedimensional campus is an important part of the digital campus project.This paper takes Anhui University of Science and Technology as an example, introduced the design and implementation process of virtual campus based on GIS technology.And focuses on implementation techniques and methods such as system architecture,3D modeling,system functions and so on. Integrated with programming languages conducting secondary development to achieve threedimensional roaming, query and other functions of campus.Firstly, the paper introduce the deprocessing of the campus topographic map, acquisiting and processing the data of campus texture map. Introduced to create TINof campus in the base of elevation data by the ArcGIS software.Then, importing the vector data to3Dmodeling software(3Ds MAX).Using3Ds MAX software to create3D model of campus data.The methods of creating3D model is important. The ground model and the terrain model including building model and environment road model and so on. The3D medel as the foundation,the general software development tools-Microsoft Studio200for development platform, and combining the language of C#with ArcEngine to finish integration development, reallizing the basic operation of roaming, inquiry, analysis and so on.
