As the efficient supplement cable network, wireless area network is prosperous because of its flexibility, movability and portability. The fat AP is the center of the traditional WLAN network frame, and is well developed in the pint-sized network. While in the large WLAN network the fat Ap is not that convinient to manage and it has a disadvantage over the safety, movability and extensiveness. The new centralized WLAN frame constituted by thin AP and AC (Access controler, for short AC) has well solved these problems. The thin AP will bring portability to network manager, but it can be used only cooperated with AC. Fat AP can make good in this aspect. Design a new type of wireless access system (AP) which centralizes thin mode and fat mode will be more elastic in the usage of wireless network. It is indispensable that the IPv4is placed by the IPv6because the shortage of IPV4's extension. In this article, it describes the technology theory of the IPv6and its realization in the linux kernel. And then it briefly accouts the soft and hard flatform of AP, describes the design and realization of the AP software in detail, proposes a design project which can support the two types of the AP modeā€”fat and thin, and then gives a digital flow control method which is based on the AP ESSID. Finally, a network test environment is built to test the new system designed. Main items tested include:SNMP module in thin mode and WEB module and flow control function in thin mode. The test result shows that the system can satisfy the exchange and the requirments of the fat and thin mode and can be applied to the large and pint-sized WLAN network. At the same time, it can support the IP version of IPv4and IPv6. The flow control method can control the flow of the ESSID in the AP efficiently, thus, ensure the full use of the wireless network limited bandwidth resource.
