With the rapid development of Internet technology, especially the appearance of multimedia applications in recent years, network bandwidth is depleted sharply. In order to use network bandwidth more efficiently and decrease network congestion and delay, multicast is present as a new solution.The work of this paper is supported by National "863" Program and CNGI 2006 Internet and Mobile Communication Project.Firstly, the arisen background, predominance and developing trend of IP multicast technology which is include the multicast route protocol and Internet group management protocol are introduced. We discuss multicast listener discovery, i. e., IGMPv1, IGMPv2, IGMPv3, MLDv1 and MLDv2, working mechanisms between the host and the router.On the basis of analyzing primary data structures of MLDv2 protocol moduleds in Chapter 4, we introduce the mechanism and the procedure realization of MLDv2 based on Linux kernel over IPv6 both the host and the router. And then we discribe the network we used to verify the software and give the tests to prove MLDv2 has been done.In the end of this paper, we made a prospect for the developing future of multicast. |
