The air compressor is a kind of general machinery and equipment which is widely used in many industrial production areas. Economy and reliability of the air compressor in the system have a direct impact on the effectiveness and safety of the entire operating system, so all products in the factory must be rigorously tested before they are put into service. Manual testing is commonly used and it's not only complicated but also imprecise. So it is necessary to design and develop an effective air compressor testing system using the modern measurement and control technology.In this paper a system for air compressor testing is designed and implemented using Visual Basic. This testing system is comprised of data acquiring, processing and storing. With testing system, all signals describing air compressor working condition can be dynamically display on computer screen and test result reports can be automatically generated.Requirement of testing system is analyzed firstly in this paper, and then five modules are designed and developed. The five modules are data acquiring module, real-time display module, alarm module, algorithms module and report module. The corresponding functions of these five modules are all realized. The PCI-1712 is an A/D card which is installed in computer. Testing system stores communication parameters of PCI-1712 in database, and reloads parameters from the database to the card. The changing of the parameters can be stored to database with ADO technology. Data management for each module is developed also.The testing result of this system is presented. The user can make use of this system to complete the test of air compressor in the hardware and software environment provided by this system. All the data acquired are saved into database. User can retrieve the historical data at any time. This system meets the functional requirements of the user.
