The Unified Communications (UC) technology is an integrated solution supporting the integration of CT and IT. According to the industry standards of UC, communication directroy is one of its important functions, but the technical standard is still missing. Therefore, it is of significance to study the service standard and implementation technologies of .communication directory. This thesis focuses the design and implementation technologies of personal communication directory service of UC.Firstly, the thesis introduces the basic concepts of UC and communication directory and makes a comparative analysis of related technologies. Then functional requirements of UC personal communication directory are provided and its system architecture is proposed with detailed modular functions illustrated. Following the above discussion, an in-depth study is conducted of the synchronization technique vital to the communication directory service of UC. Systematical description is provided of notification and synchronization initialization technique as well as data synchronization technique. A fingerprint algorithm is presented to judge whether the directory data is modified and an approach to implementing the incremental synchronization of personal communication directory is presented by use of the change log. A fingerprint–based decision making criterion is specified for the bi-directional synchronization and synchronization restoration process. Finite State Machine (FSM) is designed and data model is defined for communication directory synchronization. Furthermore, design techniques of personal communication directory are detailed, including that of information modeling, XML database, data security and interworking between personal communication directory and the traditional information directory data formats. Finally, an implementation of UC personal communication directory prototype is programmed with its functional testing results provided.
