Global Positioning System (GPS) helps to provide an unlimited number of all over the world with continuous and accurate velocity, location and information in all the weather. Initially, GPS was only applied in military area. However, with the ever-developing technology and market expansion, it is gradually implemented in civil area. Furthermore, the mass production and the trend of the component miniaturization contribute to low-cost GPS receivers. In this thesis, the GPS receiver project and the functional requirement are firstly proposed. The receiver is composed of the antenna, RF front-end part and the baseband part. Meanwhile, the noise figure of the amplifier and the sensitivity of the receiver are analyzed. Secondly, a low-noise amplifier with the matching circuit is designed using ADS 2009, as the simulated results shown the gain is greater than 30dB and the noise figure is less than 1dB. When designing the peripheral circuit, the RF front-end chip ATR0601 and baseband process chip ATR0625P are chosen. Thirdly, the circuit schematics and printed circuit board (PCB) is designed using Cadence 16.2. Gerber files are inspected using CAM350. Finally, the circuit is fabricated and measured. Analyzing the positioning data, the accuracy of the receiver is sacrificing the requirement.
