As a carrier for the electrical connection of electronic components, printed circuit board(PCB) is an indispensable part of all electronic products. Because of the demands of electronic products(smaller, lighter, thinner)and high density assembly,the design and manufacture of PCBs have got a rapid progress and the requires of design of PCBs also become more strict. According to the nature of the substrate, PCB is divided into rigid circuit boards, flexible circuit board and rigid-flex circuit boards. The PCB manufacturing process is relatively complex with 30~200 procedures. With such a diversity of PCB products, different sorts of product need differently manufacturing process. As process parameters have large differences, the PCB product properties are analyzed to determine the production process and parameters through the engineering department. There is extremely easy to judge the mistakes in the process. The PCB product performance cannot achieve optimal because of the error of process design and parameter. Even defect will appear in the PCB product.The paper introduces the development of printed circuit boards. The characteristics of the rigid circuit board, flexible circuit board and rigid-flex circuit board are expounded. Take the flexible printed boards and rigid-flex circuit boards as the research object, the corresponding relationship between PCB product characteristics and PCB manufacturing process is in-depth studied. Through the summary of PCB product requirement, product information and production process, PCB design idea is constructed using reasonable module. With the help of WPS software, the feasible PCB design module is structured. Further, the WPS application file with automatic process generating function is achieved by joining corresponding relationship to module. The intelligent PCB design guides accurately and efficiently the process. The WPS file is applied to the design of rigid printed circuit board、flexible circuit board and rigid-flex board. Which shorten the design time and improve the qualified rate of PCB. It lays the foundation for the establishment of more mature, quick and practical multi-layer PCB design process.
