Research And Application Of Cable TV Value-added Services Based On Triple-Network Convergence

Along with the emergence of national triple-network convergence, the Cable TV and Telecom systems are getting into each other's business field. The convergence involves not only the level of network technology, but that of service and marketing also. Instead of a single kind of network dominating the whole market, the idea is to fully utilize and reform the existing network environment and leverage their physical superiority so as to make it possible for anyone to get any service through any kind of network.Via the bi-directional network transformation, the Cable TV network has been extended from just bearing TV service to bearing the telecom service as well, including that of voice, data, image and multimedia. Since it is the first time for Cable TV system to deploy integrated multimedia communication services, the effective business planning and management becomes a challenge. With reference to the experience from advanced value-added service (VAS) platforms at home and abroad, the dissertation deals with an open and sophisticated VAS management platform.First of all, the dissertation briefs the current situation of triple-network convergence and explains its pros and cons as well as the technical and business problems during the process of promotion. Then, considering the problems in the deployment of VAS within triple-network convergence, an integrated VAS management platform is proposed. It can tackle the design complexity issues of different VAS systems using a software model with multilayer system structure. Detailed description of the platform is given to its architecture, system functional modules and interface design. Finally, two typical value-add services, TV shopping mall and TV game, are implemented, based on the proposed platform. Detailed description of these two services is given to their architecture, functional modules, access to the platform, and deployment status.
