Cost,quality and delivery speed are the three KPI of enterprise performance and business competition. However, in Discrete Manufacturing, inventory level is closely related to these three KPI. The cost of inventory has become what the company considers most. Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan first adopting and publiszing JIT as part of its Toyota Production System, considered the cost of inventory as the one of the waste. Most companies pay more attention to inventory reduction, as well as WIP reduction. High WIP inventory is used to cover up and hide problems, such as design problems, quality problems, reworks and defects, etc. On the other hand, it causes wrong takt time, more waiting time, longer cycle time and low delivery speed. Therefore, inventory control, optimization and rationalization become one of the most important parts in discrete manufacturing companies. In this thesis, we examine the inventory control on real cases.Compared to the existing methods in the world, we found most research consider each production process equally, but ignore the impact of critical processā€“ bottleneck. Oriented production system, we emphasize on the theory of TOC, present the thoughts of WIP inventory reduction. In order to improve the total efficiency and guarantee the continuous production, we reduce the fluctuation of WIP inventory before the bottleneck.The concerns above should finally return to the WIP control. There are several approaches to WIP control. Through the study on these approaches, a WIP management system could be attained with the help of a computer. The time and space distribution of work-in-process can be determined in a real-time way employing the system. As a result, bottlenecks and bugs of production lines can be clearly identified, which can finally lead to the fulfillment of elimination of bottlenecks, cut-down of WIP stocks and related working capital.
