As military technology has boomed today, the infrared imaging tracking guidance technology has been widely adopted by kinds of high-speed and accurate aircrafts, the dynamic infrared scene simulation technology also has been developed. As the core of the dynamic infrared scene simulation technology, target track simulation system can simulate the orbiting of the missile and the target under the laboratory conditions, so detect the searching, recognizing, tracking and attacking capabilities of the infrared imaging photoelectrical equipment, like the tracking guidance weapons. The small target track simulation system referred is designed to measure and analysis the precision of the infrared search and track system indoors.The traditional indoor test of the infrared search and track system uses an inspection device with several collimators, which are fixed into different azimuth and pitching angles. The inspection device is not suitable for short distance indoor experiments because of its low accuracy, huge bulk and inflexible moving. The small target track simulation system designed includes the blackbody radiation sources, the double targets track simulator, PC and the test software. A precise stepper motor system of the double targets track simulator drives the small target disk. The blackbody radiation sources provide target temperature. The high precision of the stepper motor system is realized by the subdivision driver controlled by a piece of FPGA chip.PC connects the stepper motor system through RS-232 serial, the software interface written by Visual Basic sets the stepper motor's running speed, direction and the operating angle value. PC shows the object's coordinates track in real time and then turns them into azimuth and pitching angles through the measuring angle accuracy algorithm. Compare the azimuth and pitching angles measured by the infrared search and track system with the theoretical value then the tested system's precision is gained. The design and implementation of the small target track simulation system is discussed in detail. An experiment result's analysis is provided.
