With the increasing in demand for reliable multicast communication services, multicast has been widely used in the Internet business requirement as the most effective technology, so the reliability has become the current research emphasis. However the traditional IP multicast has not been widely used in the Internet and IP reliable multicast protocols are also puzzled by some problems. Thus the reliable group communication based on IP multicast technology currently can not satisfy the application requirement. Application Layer Multicast overcomes some challenges of IP Multicast and has become a new way to guarantee reliable communication, but there are only a few existing Application Layer Multicast protocols to provide reliable multicast communication services, and there are still some problems in the scalabilities and reliabilities of those models.This paper starts from the multicast research background, and analyzes the importance of multicast, then describes the implementation of the principle multicasts, the concept and necessity of two mainstream multicast communication technology and reliable multicast technology. Then, it introduces several typical application layer reliable multicast protocols, and takes a briefly analysis of their principles and strong/weak points.After investigating and analyzing large numbers of correlated references about existing reliable multicast protocols at home and abroad, this paper proposes one new reliable multicast protocol named BRMP. Based on the hybrid architecture of Bus-ring, it may transport the data in the structure at the same time. In order to solve the multipoint sending issues, it uses the competition mechanism in the bus and the queuing mechanism in the ring which could greatly improve the data transmission efficiency. This protocol adopts timer and sequence number technologies based on the receivers to detect the lost packets. It uses ARQ mechanism based on NAK negative information to recover those data errors. It sets up the reserved- cache with a combination of sliding windows and regulation speed scheme to send data to reduce the network congestion.Firstly, this paper discusses the construction and maintenance of the model, the establishment of the overly network from initialization. Then, it analyzes the reliability of the implementation process of BRMP, and demonstrates from four kinds of mechanisms. Finally, NS simulations are evaluated to verify its feasibility. Simulation results shows that it has a higher data transmission efficiency under the situation of reliable multicast. Meanwhile, it could effectively reduce system congestion, and adapt to all kinds of real-time and non real-time business scenarios, thus possess good reliability and application prospects.
