As the continual, steady and rapid development of our national economy, peoples'living standard is gradually improving; however, food safety affairs repeatedly take place, which puts government, enterprises and consumers into an unprecedented attention of product quality, food safety, and health quarantine. At the same time, unstopped development of laboratory scientific research and production technology makes traditional management mode unable to adapt to the modernized management requirement. People ask for higher requirement on sample quantities, analysis periods, analysis items and the data authority and reliability. Under such background, the laboratory information management system (short for LIMS) occurs.With the adoption of J2EE structure and the joint test of design principle of the integrated laboratory application management platform and its outcome, LIMS requests for far more requirement on function, performance and expansibility of the system. It strictly accords with ISO/IEC17025. After further investigation on fix staff and fix posts, it reorganizes test operating process for test institutions, with the test operation process as a main course and the processes of expenses, samples and reports auxiliary. It offers a complete systematic support for the entire laboratory's quality management system under the auxiliary management for equipments and materials, such as apparatuses and equipments, standard materials and standard solvent, and consumables. It offers a set of an entire system of integrated laboratory management and products quality surveillance.The system is made up of ten function models, such as business acceptance, test processes management, samples management, apparatuses and equipments management, items and materials management, shared resources management, system management, clients relationship management, test expenses management and statistics reports management. the paper mainly introduces analysis, design and realization of business acceptance, test processes management, samples management, apparatuses and equipments management, management of standard materials and standard solvent, shared resources management, management of basic ability base and management of report patterns, and it also gives explanation for its application cases.The system is successfully carried out in two national laboratories. After the performance of the system, LIMS can offer auxiliary decision-making information to optimize resource collaboration of a laboratory, and set up good laboratory management models, so as to effectively guarantee strict management and control of a laboratory's analysis data, as well as to decrease artificial interference and quality affairs. It provides quality guarantee for analysis and test data, standardizes fine laboratory management, and reduces cost of quality management.
