"good Friend" Illustrated Politics Figures Reported Studies

Each period requires a media to convey it's uniqueness. Founded by Wu Linde on Feb.15,1926 in Shanghai and ended in Oct.1945, Companion, issued 172 periodicals and 2 supplements. Although, prior to it, there are already some pictorials in existance, such as Kid's Monthly Book published by Shanghai Qingxin Pulishing House in 1875; Tuhua Xinbao, which is published by Shanghai St.Church Printing House in 1880; Dianshizhai Huabao, which is released by Shanghai Shun Pao in 1884; The World, which is edited and printed by Li Shi in Paris in 1907; Gao Qifeng's Truth in 1912 and Weekly Pictorial issued by Shanghai Times, their parochiality leads to their extinction. Rather, Companion's openness has won the recognition by scholars as the most significant pictorial in Chinese Modern Contemporary history.Researches on Companinon are mainly on "Urban Culture Construction" and "Modernity Construction". However, systematic studies on prominent figures like Dun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek and Feng Yuxiang, et al have not been accomplished. Mr. Wu Liande once stated:"Publishing industry secures a country and nourishes it's people while printing business fortifies a country and enriches its people". This shows Companion's willingness to take social responsiblities. However, when we look into the previous studies on this pictorial, its social, political as well as cultural influences have been neglected.The thesis intends to reveal 20th century china by exploring great social figures. The significance of this topic lies in the fact that it will enrich character research on Companion by analyzing how this journal take part in the social and political progress and help construct the main stream of consciousness.i.e. how it shoulders it's social responsibilites. According to the existing time of Companion, the thesis is divided into three sections concentrating on three different time periods, i.e. pictorial's starting time till "Sep.18th incident" in 1931; 1931 to "July.7th Indident" in 1937; and lastly,1937 till the final number of this journal. Based on Companion's descriptions on prominent historical figures, the author will pinpoint this pictorial's political and cultural significance by revealing their social influence and guiding competence in politics.
