As the development of electronic controlled technology and luminescent materials, LED(Light Emitting Diode) as a new media of information output has been more and more applied in various occasions. As major information display in the highway, he variable information boards have played an important role in the prevention of traffic accidents.At present, the variable information boards mainly take MCS51 series microcontrollers as the controllers, and they're designed by the way scanning line by line. However, this kind of display screen based on the above drive mode design hasn't high enough brightness, is easily been disturbed and need high clock frequency of drive chip. Our system uses a new drive style. First, the control circuit send data to the shift circuit, then send the data by parallel way to drive chip MBI5026 through the 74HC164's shifting. This style can solve the stability and brightness problems very well.This thesis analyzes the display system's designing style, describes the process of control circuit that adopts DSP(TMS320LF2407)+CPLD(EPM1270T) for the work of coordination, then introduces the drive improvements, the design process of all parts of the hardware and software. By the PC software, the variable information board sends the data in picture to DSP's serial ports and PC communication. DSP stores the received data into FLASH (AD29LV160D).When the information needs to display, the control circuit will send data to shift circuit, then by shift circuit the data is sent to drive circuit, finally ,they can be displayed on the board.After testing, the system can display steadily, has high brightness and flexible control. It has certain practical value. Anyhow, through the test, the system completely achived the expected requirements.
