In this thesis, we studied a canonical volumetric display system, of which the load character and drive control are mainly researched.First, the historic development and current situation of the display technology at home and abroad are stated briefly. The mainstream of the display technology are investigated. The canonical volumetric system based on the moving screen theory is put forward as a research object for the reason of the disadvantages of existing products.Second, the functions and structure of the canonical volumetric display system are studied. The system is divided into five subsystems-the graphics generating subsystem, the synchronization control subsystem, the step drive subsystem, the mechanical scan subsystem and the optic imaging subsystem. The principles of the subsystems and the relationships among them are expatiated.Third, the balance equations of driven components in the mechanical subsystem are attained through the force analysis of the subsystem. The forces of driven components at any position are obtained by computer programs using the iterative method, and the variation characteristics are deduced by the results.Fourth, the subdivision open-loop control using step motor is choosed as the drive & control scheme considering the characters and demands of the canonical volumetric display system. Based on analyzing the available means for designing speed-up/down curve, a new method is proposed, that is applicable for any known variable load, which is linear with the angular acceleration. Using this method, the optimum speed-up/down curve for the system is designed. The fifth chapter gives an introduction of the design job and manufacture situation of the first prototype. The existing functions and the drive implementation of the prototype are introduced. The experimentation results of the prototype are analyzed and some suggestions for further improvement are proposed. The final chapter draws some conclusions on the entire thesis and some works for further research are proposed.
