With the exploitation of the Ocean, more and more underwater acoustic equipments are emerging. In the initial stage of the development, a full-featured and flexible signal simulator has become more and more important for the testing of the devices. In this thesis, a method of design and implementation of a multifunctional portable signal simulator based on ARM and FPGA is proposed. The system design idea is presented based on the analysis of the design requirements. In this dissertation, the ARM processor is chosen as the main controller and FPGA processor is used for logical extension. The signal simulator can generate several signals commonly used in the underwater acoustic field by the D/A converter and make use of the A/D converter for signal acquisition in the out field. In this paper, there gives the specific design and implementation.By transplanting the embedded Linux and QtE4.6.3 to the ARM processor to realizing the display and control functions, then a friendly man-machine interactive function is achieved; data collection and transmission is realized by using the VHDL language to program the A/D and D/A interface. ARM controller can also communicate with the PC through network interface. And it can control and exchange data with the FPGA using UART and SPI.At the end of this paper, all the modules of the signal simulator were tested. And it is concluded that every portion has met the requirements. At the same time, the feasibility and reliability of the scheme proposed in this dissertation is proved.
