With the developing of marine technique and marine work, marine data increase rapidly and data sources become more and more, at the same time, data type become more complex. Therefore, it needs to find an appropriate approach which manages effectively these marine basic data to provide quickly and accurately various services, so data warehouse technique is exploited by the marine environment domain. But, as the marine environmental data have diversity of data source and data indicated feature and so on, there are demand requirement and heterogeneous data processed problems. Ontology can offer firmly foundation for domain knowledge shared and knowledge based reasoning. Further more, ontology can eliminate conflict and confusion of understanding in different application background. The thesis mainly researches a method and technique of building data warehouse dimensional model using domain ontology.At first, the thesis introduces the concept and technique of data warehouse and ontology; and presents the building methods and examples of global ontology and local ontology of data source against the marine environmental data characteristic. According to analyzing the marine environmental domain, it selects the marine hydrology to study and builds its core ontology, and adopts OWL language to describe.And then, the thesis designs the marine environmental data warehouse multidimensional modeling algorithm ontology-based, including potential dimension identified, potential measure identified and dimension hierarchies identified algorithms. At the same time, it uses the mapping between local ontology and global ontology of data source to discuss the extraction process of data to DW from data source.Finally, it validates the validity and feasibility of algorithm with marine hydrological subject and gets its multi-dimension example.The result showed that users can play an active role in designing system by using the field of terminology communication with them. Further more; design dimensions and measurement based on domain ontology unified the semantic consistency. Global schema shields the semantic heterogeneous from local database each other. In addition, it provides references for communicating between designer and users and advances efficiency for systems analysis and modeling.
