With the development of the digital medical equipments and the widespread applications of them in the diagnoses realm, medical image data have been produced increasingly. Because medical image data have been stored in different places, how to make the doctors view and retrieve medical image data which store in other places and how to choose the reasonable retrieval method as the doctors request is the core mission of this paper.Considering the academic applications and research requirements, this paper begins with the functional requirements between retrieval client and retrieval server, applys the modularization to analyse and design the Web Services interface for retrieval engine, and makes it high cohesion and low coupling, it designs and fulfills concrete functions which include Web Services publication, Web Services interface and Application Model. In the Application Model, they are MRAP information package, MRAP Extension and Data Accessing Model, with the mothod of SSL, the Web Services interface can be used securely. Through the Web Services interface for the retrieval engine, the retrieval client could analyse the distributions of the medical image data, and at the same time it could provide the functions of structural retrieval, text retrieval, image retrieval and medical resources downloading.The Web Services interface for retrieval engine designed and fulfilled in this paper can ensure that the communication between the retrieval client and retrieval server which won't be affected by the platform of the retrieval client. The Web Services interface for retrieval engine shows its validity and practicability during the laboratorial application.
