| In the information age, video information and multimedia information have been widely applied in the Internet and mobile network. Because of the enormous amount of information included in video, we must first address the issue of video compression coding for effective video application.H.264/AVC, developed by both Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG), is the latest video coding standard. Because of its excellent compression performance and network compatibility, it plays an important role in digital television broadcast system, video real-time communication, network streaming media transmission, multimedia message, etc.A lot of new coding features are introduced into H.264, which not only improve the coding efficiency, but also increase the complexity of coding algorithm. Most of the processing platform cannot meet the complicated designing ideas and computational complexity. The DM642 device is an excellent choice for digital media applications, which provide a glueless interface to common video decoder and encoder devices. With performance of up to 5760 million instructions per second (MIPS) at a clock rate of 720 MHz, the DM642 device offers cost-effective solutions to high-performance DSP programming challenges, making it be an ideal platform of H.264 implementation. The hardware platform for video encoder and storage based on the DM642 device is designed in this paper. The video CODEC and main functional units employed by H.264 encoder are deeply studied. Based on the H.264 encoder's reference software called x264, a lot of optimization is made to transplant the H.264 encoder onto the DM642 platform, including memory subsystem optimization, algorithm and program optimization, etc.Finally, the CompactFlash (CF) storage card is employed to provide high capacity and mobile data storage. The encoded video data is stored on CF card in real time, so that the video information can be analyzed and processed in future. |
