VRGIS is a new embranchment in the development of GIS field. Applying the technology of VRGIS to the domain of agricultural spatial information management is very important to promote the quick development of digital agriculture. Based on the system engineering theory, the spatial, attributive and scene databases were designed by attaining and analyzing the characters of different kinds of information in agricultural region. Also, by gathering and creating the 3D model data about the virtual display of agricultural region, and getting the construction parameters about the 3D virtual scene of agricultural region, a methodology for quickly establishing the 3D virtual scene of agricultural region was constructed with the theory and technology of virtual reality. Finally, by researching the mechanism and method of integrating system databases, knowledge model for crop cultural management and VRGIS, a VRGIS-based digital agricultural region management system was developed, the system realized the functions as standard management of spatial information in agricultural region, assistant decision support for crop cultural management plan and virtual simulation display. The results provided a digital and visual platform for the construction and management of new countryside, and promoted the development of digital agriculture.Based on collecting and consulting the literature, and measuring the data in the open field, the spatial database of system was established with SuperMap Deskpro 2008, the attributive and scene databases of system were established by systemically analyzing the spatial and attributive data of agricultural region. Considering the temporal, spatial and dynamic characters of 3D virtual scene of agricultural region, a methodology of quickly constructing the 3D virtual scene of agricultural region was designed with the VRMap 3.0 platform and scene database, which could realize the function of automatically making scene, including creation of terrain, import of ground objects, setting of background, light and camera, etc.By applying the technology of VRGIS to agricultural spatial information management, a digital and visual VRGIS-based digital agricultural region management system was developed with SuperMap Objects 2008 as the platform of spatial information management and VRMap 3.0 as the drive of scene by integrating different information of agricultural region and existent knowledge model of crop cultural management, which realized the standard management of agricultural spatial information, assistant decision of crop cultural management plan and virtual simulation display about the entire environment of agricultural region.Case studies on the system were carried out in Heheng village of Jiangyan city and Qinglong village of Nanjing city, Jiangsu province. The results indicated that the structure framework and design idea of the system accorded with the development demand of modern agricultural information technology, and realized the standard and digital management of spatial information in two agricultural regions with a good interface and convenient manipulation. The crop cultural management plan for agricultural region could show in different forms, and had a good guidance and maneuverability. Meanwhile, the 3D virtual scene of agricultural region could be constructed quickly by the system with a higher fidelity, and edited as fast as the environmental change of agricultural region with a fluent picture.
