When ship navigating on the sea, the motion of ship is very complex and related to the ship's working, so it is of great value for studying ships moving control and manipulation. Using traditional test methods to do research on ship motion would be a time-costing and laborious process, while using computer to simulate the ships motion cost the least but can do more further explorative study, it makes the ship motion simulation based on computer gradually become the research hotspot.Virtual simulation for ships moving is one important aspect of ship motion simulation, which based on virtual reality technology, with the virtual scene can show out the state of ship movement, make people to establish the most intuitionistic understanding of the abstract simulation results easily, facilitate people to recognize things and find rule.In this paper, the ship motion simulation based on virtual reality technology and research on large-scale ship motion aims at two aspects:ship maneuverability and powering performance. Getting the simulation results by programming and software calculating, and then designing an visual simulation system base on visual simulation technology, it visualizes the simulation results, reappears ships moving state during navigation. All of these both lay the foundation of further development of ship motion simulator also play a positive role for ship performance pre-study and evaluation. Specifically, the contents of this paper are as follows:First of all, under reasonable hypothesis for research object, according to MMG ship motion equation, the paper established the 4-dof mathematical model, it provide a theoretical basis for the calculation of ship maneuverability as well as the real-time positioning of ship motion in the later. In this course, the paper decomposed the force on ship according to the idea of separation, discussed the solution of every force in detail, finally according to the 4-dof equation for large-scale ship motion this paper analyzed the calculation of ship maneuverability.Secondly, according to the relevant theory of CFD, the paper calculated the powering performance of ship by FLUENT. The paper analyzed the ship powering performance mainly from resistance and propulsion efficiency, particularly introduced how to calculate the resistance of ship in calm water and the hydrodynamic performance of open propeller and gave the necessary analysis for the results.Then the paper used Creator and Vega to finish the modeling and initialization of the virtual scene. The course of modeling and the key technology used in modeling were introduced in detail. By configuring the ADF file, the paper introduced the establishment of virtual scene, especially expound the loading of model, the initialization of scene elements, the realization of the Marine environment, etc.Finally, according to the procedure of developing MFC-Based Vega application, the paper completed the development of simulation interface. In this section, the paper introduced the main framework of Vega application briefly, then analyzed emphatically the mechanism of MFC-Based Vega application, by which the development of simulation system was illustrated. Besides the paper introduced the interface design and function setting of the simulation system and verified the feasibility of the simulation by displaying the visualization of simulation results.
